AVSL Round 1 - Casey
Our 2024/25 Shield Season kicked off on the weekend (5 Oct), and despite a bit of rain, well done by the 19 Waverley- Malvern athletes who competed in round 1. There were some great results:
- Welcome to our first time Waverley-Malvern athletes – Jack Ashcroft with 3 events (a run, a jump and a throw), Alexander Shopov with a 100m and 1500m, and Arosh Heenkenda with a 1500m
- Our best points were by Kate Fawkner 1,124 points in 3 throw events – awesome work, and a great start to the season
- Next best was Linda Buttigieg – 1,081 points from 4 events.
- Then Christine Bridle 1,055 points from 4 events. Great to see Christine back running and jumping again.
- Our highest event points were Kate with 428 in the shot put, Linda with 389 in the hammer and Niamh with 380 in the 3000m. Nice to see Niamh back running summer again.
- Our most popular event was the 1500m with 7 athletes. Ryan Bentleigh was our quickest with 4:45
- then the 100m with 5 athletes. Jack Ashcroft was our quickest with 12.48
- then the shot put with 3 athletes. Big Shane threw the furthest with 14.36
- a special mention to Yvonne who was awarded 600 points for her great work as a Meet Manager Operator
- a big thank you to our helpers, especially Richard Ferrer, and also Martin and Simone and anyone else who helped out in the rain. Very much appreciated and overall worth 5% of our points or 533 points.
Overall we finished 7th in Div 3, which is a much better start than last season, especially in the rain and out at Casey Fields. Next weekend in R2 we’re at more convenient venues for most – Glenhuntly and Doncaster. I’ll be at Glenhuntly, and hopefully we’ll get an even bigger R2 turnout. We did some great workk across these 2 venues last year.
