AVSL Round 4 - Glenhuntly

Some good news, our R4 points have been updated to include our relay and Craig Sanford’s hammer points, so we finished ahead of Ringwood, giving us a helpful 2 point buffer over them and a slighltly better 4 point buffer over 2nd last Wyndham. Still no news on Kate’s points though. Not looking so promising there.

Well done by the 19 Waverley-Malvern runners who made it out to Doncaster or Glenhuntly today. We did pretty well with our second biggest number of events (51) for the season and filling a 4×400m relay team out at Doncaster.

Our score of 13,102 was our 2nd best for the season, but other clubs were doing even better. With a steeple instead of a 3K or 5K on offer, this restricted our points a little, and we also missed Helen injured and the Harveys and Spiteris (away). Also our biggest points scorer this season, Kate Fawkner, was cruelly allocated no points for not checking in on time. She drives all the way from Wangaratta to compete, so this is pretty tough. We’ve put in a request for leniency to have her points reinstated, but we’ll see how we go. It’s a timely reminder that all athletes need to check in at least an hour before each event this year, even the runs. Julian and Ernie nearly got caught out too. So make sure you check in with plenty of time, preferrably the night before.

We are listed as 9th for the round, but if we can get Kate’s points counting that will lift us to 7th and keep a good buffer from the relegation zone (bottom 2). We’re either 3 points or 5 points above 9th placed Wyndham on the ladder, depending on if our appeal is successful.

Next week’s round 5 is at Frankston or Aberfeldie. Hopefully you’re already entered. If not, please do it now at: https://athsvic.org.au/events/avsl-round-05/
Then there’s a week’s break for the Vic relay champs, and then our Powerplay round on 30 November at Doncaster or Glenhuntly. We’ll need all hands on deck to maximise our points as they count double. Hoping nearly everyone can make it.
